World Vision Hong Kong in Kenya (2023)

Tags:

Kenya has seen sustained economic growth, social development, and political stability over the past decade. However, it is still facing a series of challenges including poverty, inequality, youth unemployment and climate change. Despite the March to May long rains after the long drought, which improved yields, needs remain high. Separately, the long rains triggered flash floods in various parts of the country, causing loss of lives and livelihoods, and the prevalence of malnutrition persists.

World Vision first started its work in Kenya in 1974, following widespread drought and famine in the country. Child Sponsorship began in 1978 and has gone on to reach hundreds of thousands of children. Currently, World Vision has 43 Area Programmes across 28 counties in Kenya, impacting the lives of over a 1.9 million children and their communities through various development work and programmes.

In 2023, World Vision Hong Kong contributed approximately HK$12.1 million to support 3 APs, 1 other project and 3 relief projects in Kenya, benefiting around 297,500 people.
