Tai Po Fire Emergency Response
On 26 November 2025, a level 5 fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. The incident claimed 168 lives and left many injured, making it the third deadliest fire in Hong Kong’s history. All 1,984 residential units in the estate were affected, and residents were required to evacuate. Most households have since been rehoused in transitional or interim accommodation across different districts.
Our Response
World Vision Hong Kong activated its emergency response mechanism following the incident. Working alongside partners, our team conducted rapid needs assessments on site and began providing post-disaster support.
Over the past three months, we have remained in close communication with affected families, listening to their needs and walking alongside them during this difficult period. In partnership with churches, schools and social service organisations, we have provided various forms of educational and livelihood assistance to impacted children and households, reaching nearly 5,700 beneficiaries to date.
Made possible by the generous support of donors, World Vision Hong Kong has responded to urgent needs across three areas: child protection and education support, mental health and psychosocial care, and resettlement and recovery assistance.
Child Protection and Education Support
- Emergency cash assistance was provided to 299 affected students
- 270 children participated in specially designed child-friendly learning programmes
- 85 school staff members received workshops on post-disaster emotional identification and student support

- Psychological counselling was provided to affected school staff and caregivers. Workshops on emotional awareness and management were also conducted to help them better understand the impact of the fire, recognize their emotional responses early, and relieve stress. A total of 30 individuals directly benefited from these services
- 1,100 social workers, teachers, frontline child workers and pastoral staff participated in crisis intervention workshops to strengthen their capacity to support individuals affected by large-scale disasters
- 425 affected households received cash assistance to purchase personal hygiene items and essential daily necessities
- Ventilation fans were installed in kitchens and bathrooms for 275 households rehoused in temporary housing to improve air circulation. An additional 80 households received essential household items
- Community integration activities were organized to help rehoused families familiarize themselves with their new neighbourhoods and available support networks
We recognize that recovery extends beyond material assistance. Community solidarity plays a vital role in addressing the psychological and emotional needs of those affected. We are deeply grateful to donors whose generosity has enabled timely support and sustained accompaniment for impacted families, as we work together to build a more resilient community.
We also invite the public to keep affected families in their thoughts and prayers — that they may receive comfort, strength and hope in the days ahead. May compassion and faith continue to guide the recovery of lives and community.

Case Sharing
Mrs. Lam, a formerly resident of Wang Fuk Court, shared the below:
"Since the loss of our family member, my daughter (aged 9) has been carrying a heavy burden of self-blame and guilt. She often feels that if she had done more at the time, things might not have turned out this way. I know she is deeply hurting, but as a parent, I often do not know how to help her release her emotions… Although she has not yet completed the full course of play therapy sessions, I can already sense that she is less anxious than before. I truly hope she can soon return to a normal life."
She added, "We are once again deeply grateful for the support. For families like ours who have just experienced the devastation of a fire, this assistance does more than ease our financial burden and emotional strain. It reassures our child that she is seen and protected. For our entire family, this is a truly precious form of support.”
