Countless Children Living in Fear as Violence Escalates

2026-03-11

Conflict in the Middle East is rapidly spreading into Lebanon, claiming 570 lives and injuring over a thousand people to date. Nearly 700,000 children and families have been forced to flee their homes, facing hunger, fear, and uncertainty about what lies ahead.

“Countless families are living under the weight of deep uncertainty. Children struggle to sleep at night, unsure whether their homes, schools, or loved ones will remain safe. No child should have to grow up surrounded by such fear and instability,” shares Eleanor Monbiot, Regional Leader for the Middle East and Eastern Europe of World Vision.

Relentless Relief Efforts Amidst Mounting Violence

Amid the turmoil, World Vision has responded swiftly. In Lebanon, we are reaching displaced children and families by supporting 8 community kitchens with ingredients and distributing the following essential aid:

  • 37,800 hot meals
  • 19,100 ready-to-eat food
  • 5,500 blankets
  • 4,100 mattresses
  • 2,800 sleeping mats
  • 2,900 hygiene kits

Through these efforts, we have supported over 75,500 people in Lebanon to date, including more than 26,400 children. We will continue to scale up our response, hoping to support more children and families affected by the conflict with:

  • Emergency food assistance
  • Winter kits
  • Psychosocial support
  • Safe learning and child-friendly spaces

Determined to Walk with Vulnerable Children

World Vision has been serving in the Middle East and Eastern Europe for over 50 years, steadfastly walking alongside the most vulnerable children through conflict, disaster, and the growing impact of climate change, and never leaving. Currently, World Vision operates in 15 countries and territories across the region, including Afghanistan, Lebanon, Ukraine, Syria, and Iraq, delivering humanitarian and implementing development programmes. Together with local partners, we support children affected by violence and displacement, providing immediate relief and long-term recovery assistance to rebuild their lives and restore hope.

Ongoing conflict, natural disasters, and climate-related shocks have left more than 74 million people across the Middle East and Eastern Europe in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. Despite a significant drop in international humanitarian funding, World Vision remains committed to serving vulnerable children and families. In 2025 alone, through programmes in child protection, psychosocial support, education, health and nutrition, food and cash assistance, and water and sanitation, we reached more than 8 million people, over half of whom are children.

Every child has the right to hope and to dream.

Even during conflict, their hearts still long for the future.

Please donate to help protect vulnerable children and restore hope.
