Macau Famine 2022

The extreme climate events caused by rising temperatures, in addition to the socio-economic impact of the pandemic over the past two years, are contributing to one of the worst food crises in decades. In recent years, East Africa has been persistently affected by drought, floods, and locusts, pushing over seven million people towards the brink of hunger. Besides suffering from malnutrition, many starving children are also becoming victims of child labour and child marriage to support their families' livelihoods. They are desperate for our help.

Join this year’s Macau Famine to send hope to starving children!

Wild Fruits: The Only Food They Have

Last year, many children and families in South Sudan lived in displacement due to floods and conflict. Among them were five-year-old Adut (right) and her family who are currently living in a refugee settlement.

Every day, Adut’s father would go to look for wild fruits in the forest to feed the family. These fruits that Adut and her mother are cracking serve as the only meal of the day for the family. “My baby’s [Adut’s brother] health is improving thanks to the Plumpy’Nut that World Vision gives us regularly, but due to the lack of sufficient food, I am afraid his situation might deteriorate again,” says Adut’s mother. Let’s help them overcome their hardships!

Your Red Packet

We would like to thank the 35 schools and churches which have participated in this year’s Your Red Packet campaign to help provide food and livelihoods assistance for children and families affected by natural disasters and the pandemic.

Please refer to the Chinese website for the list of winners with the most funds raised and participants.

Drawing Competition

We would like to thank all the participating primary schools for encouraging their students to use their drawing talents to bless children from afar. This year, it’s encouraging that we have received 1,000 entries from 13 schools.

Please refer to the Chinese website for the list of winners and the awarded entries.

Flag Day

Thanks to the participation and support of schools, organisations and volunteers, the Flag Day this year was held in a smooth manner.

School Famine

Hunger in developing countries is indeed a global issue closely related to us. Students can learn more about hunger and poverty through Famine talks, workshops and Rich and Poor Banquet. Schools are also encouraged to organise their own fundraising activities to support starving children.

Through Famine talks and workshops, students are engaged to discuss and learn about hunger issues.

By taking part in the Rich and Poor Banquet, students eat different meals to experience the gap between the rich and the poor.

Schools may hold a charity sale to raise funds for starving children.

A meal is precious in the eyes of starving children, because that may be the only meal they have for that day. Join Skip-A-Meal and donate the MOP100 (or more) you saved from a meal you skipped! You will be supporting World Vision’s projects in South Sudan and Somalia, to provide food and livelihoods assistance for children and families affected by natural disasters and the pandemic.

In the workshop of "Life Auction", participants learnt not to take food and water for granted.

More starving children and families will receive help as you donate the money you saved from a meal you skipped. Invite your friends and colleagues to join this good cause with you!
