The global COVID-19 pandemic, compounded by climate change and conflicts, is devastating the world’s poor, with East Africa a particular hunger hotspot. More than 7 million people are at the very edge of starvation in East Africa, approximately 108,000 people are under ‘catastrophic’ famine conditions. Many children are suffering from severe malnutrition and are in desperate needs of help.
World Vision has started a multi-country response to address the critical needs of children and families across Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, and Kenya. Our current interventions include scaling up food and nutrition assistance, rehabilitating water structures, rolling out cash assistance, and increasing income opportunities for vulnerable communities.
World Vision is calling on the Hong Kong community to offer help to those in need during this difficult time, so that vulnerable children and families will be fed, cared for, and protected.
