The situation in Ukraine remains tense as the war goes on without signs of ending. According to the United Nations, since the beginning of the conflict in February 2022, more than 10 million people in Ukraine have been forced to flee their homes to other countries or are displaced within the country. Recently, explosions had been reported across 15 of Ukraine’s 24 regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Lviv and others. At least four people have lost their lives, and many more are severely injured. The attacks, targeting critical energy infrastructure and civilian buildings, have triggered power shutdowns in many regions. People are in need of emergency assistance as well as continued support due to the loss of home, livelihood and psychological health.
As of 31 July 2024, thanks to the support of donors in Hong Kong and around the world, we have already reached 1,960,941 people, including 895,184 children, in Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and Georgia. Our works include:
Basic Needs:
· Food assistance
· Cash and vouchers assistance
· Temporary shelter assistance
· Hygiene items support
Protective Environment for Children:
· Education programming
· Mental and psychosocial support
Livelihoods:
· Skills training programmes
In the coming year, our main priority in Ukraine will be to continue to scale up our work to meet the needs of the most vulnerable children and their families. Especially we will continue our efforts to support their basic needs and livelihoods, protect children and improve their access to education and psychosocial support.
