Study Trips

Each year, World Vision Hong Kong organises study trips for schools and churches to take a closer look at the needs of the poor around the world. These trips provide opportunities for participants to interact with the poor and gain a new perspective of their lives. Through such experiences, we hope that participants will come to appreciate the abundance they have, and be motivated to care for the less fortunate people through action.

Do you want to meet some friends in developing countries? We encourage your school to enrich your students with knowledge on poverty by participating in our school talks and school famines before joining a study trip.

Most of the families I talked to in Cambodia always wear a smile on their faces. When I played with the children in school, I could feel their happiness through their innocent smiles. Their wishes are simple: a well for farming and an education opportunity for their children. I begin to question if the things I used to worry about really matter after all. It might be better to spend more time caring for others instead!

This 7-day trip has given me lots of experiences and reflections. Each family, and each country, has its hidden wounds one wouldn’t understand unless you walk into their world.
Now that I am back in Hong Kong, whenever I see the clean and delicious food or walk in shopping malls with air-conditioning, I think of the people in Cambodia. As a member of this global village, shall we do something for them?

"But God will never forget the needy; the hope of the afflicted will never perish." (Psalms 9:18) What we can do for the poor may be very little, but the happiness of the poor who finds comfort and dignity is immense.

"A world without poverty" might be talking about two different kinds of poverty: The material poverty of the impoverished, and our soul poverty.

When we fetched water for a family, it was so heavy that even with two people we couldn’t carry it on our shoulders. I felt weak and embarrassed. Even though I was very tired, I tried my best to carry a smaller bucket of water back to the children's home.

When I return to Hong Kong, I try greeting people with a smile like I did in Liannan. I realise that they would also respond positively. How come I only discover it after this trip?
Everyone is busy in Hong Kong. We seldom slow down to look around and enjoy the beauty of the world.
