Children Left Homeless as Mega Floods Hit India World Vision Appeals to Public for Help

Since June, incessant rains in the state of Kerala in southern India have caused extremely severe floods of a scale unrivalled in almost a century.  As of now, more than 300 lives have been lost; over 32 million have been affected, with 800,000 displaced.  More than half of the affected are children.

World Vision’s assessment in the affected areas shows that the most needed items are food, clean water, sanitation and hygiene facilities/items, shelters, as well as protection and education for children.

World Vision has much experience in working in flood-affected areas.  Its staff has already started relief operation in Kerala, including food distribution and establishment of child friendly spaces to meet children’s psychological needs.  The international humanitarian organisation will continue to dispatch relief items such as hygiene packs and daily necessities, as well as providing shelters for the affected, with a view to benefiting 20,000 households.

In view of the vast scale of the need, World Vision Hong Kong appeals to the public for their generosity to bring hope to the affected.
