Organising Kit
We have prepared an Organising Kit to help young people in secondary schools and tertiary institutes to organise their own famine activities. Take a look now!
Set goals and targets
As an organiser, you should first be clear about the reason for organising a School Famine so that participants can have the same goal. Apart from experiencing hunger, you can also lead students into knowing more about a certain issue or the need of a certain region. You will need to state it clearly so that activities can be designed around this goal.
Also, you also need to decide if the activity is for fundraising. If you want the participants to be more involved to help those in need, please visit GO fundraising to set your fundraising target(s).
Decide on the type of activity
Famine activities and the fundraising methods can vary. The crucial point is to let participants gain an unforgettable experience of famine and a chance to reflect on values and lives. For example, in Famine for 10/20/30 hours: Being hungry for long hours, drinking only water or milk with no solid food can be a good way to experience hunger.
Contact World Vision
We have various educational resources, thematic talks and activity guidelines available to help you organise famine activities. Fill in the enrolment form and submit it to the Public Education Department. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
Promote passionately
Active promotion helps to attract more students to join in your famine activity. Feel free to learn more from promotion strategies, download a poster, or borrow other educational resources.
Go famine!
It is finally the day for famine. Hope you and all the other participants will have an unforgettable experience! We encourage you to organise a detailed debriefing session with the participants after the activity to consolidate and deepen their learning experience.
After famine
After the famine, please remember to share snapshots of your activity with us. We will select a few to be published on the School Famine web page so that participants and other students can share your experiences.
In addition, the teacher or student-in-charge can also ask us to issue certificates of participation. Finally, don’t forget to evaluate the organisation and implementation of the activity. This is an important learning experience!
Manage the funds raised
If funds have been raised, please deposit them into our bank account or send a cheque to us within a month after your activity. Please send your donation with the school donation form. We will issue receipts within two months. Please do pass the receipts to all the participants! Raised funds ought to be managed with proper care and with integrity; the organising committee should take this responsibility seriously and handle the money carefully. To learn more, please refer to Guidelines on Donation Handling.
