We're facing a silent emergency, one that's bigger than any natural disaster the world has ever seen. Today 24,000 children under five will die largely from preventable causes such as diarrhoea, malaria and pneumonia. Join World Vision Child Sponsorhip and help save millions of children.

The child health crisis is the most serious child rights violation of our time.

In Uganda, two-year-old John Mutegeki lies prone in his mother's arms. His parents have just walked eight miles to their closest clinic. John has been diagnosed with extreme dehydration and anaemia as a result of diarrhoea and vomiting. His mother explains that they are not always able to drink clean water. The nurse gives John simple Oral Rehydration Salts; it is the last pack she has left. John's parents must now walk miles to the next clinic and use the last of their money to buy more of the medicine that their son so desperately needs. In our culture we sometimes forget the true value that of basic medication like Oral Rehydration Salts. To us it is cheap, effective and accessible but in countries like Uganda children die simply because it is too expensive and out of reach.
