| Life Restarts in the Tent | ||||
Soon after the quake, Li Gao’s family and other villagers received shelter materials from World Vision. ‘After the earthquake, we couldn’t live in our home any more,’ Li says. ‘Now, every family has their own tent, which means a safer place to live in. The tent has become my new home.’ Together with other villagers, Li Gao’s father has built a temporary kitchen with mud and clay close to the tents. When Li Gao is free, he goes up the hill to pick wood for cooking. ‘I hate rainy days because I cannot go or cook outside. We can only have simple meals of snacks, like crackers. It is such a bother.’ World Vision plans to provide villagers with gas stoves, pressure cookers and liquid gas so that they can go back to cooking normal meals again. Although tent life might be tough, Li Gao and other villagers are very positive about the future. They have already resumed their farm work and are attempting to get back to normal life.
