30-Hour Famine ends on a high note

Famine Market presents another side of life in poverty

Jointly organised by World Vision Hong Kong and Commercial Radio 2, the 35th 30-Hour Famine came to a close today (8 April). The funds raised will provide food, nutrition and livelihood assistances to children and families affected by conflict in South Sudan, Myanmar and Syria.

Actress Pinky Cheung shared her testimony with the campers this morning and told them how she heard the gospel after entering the entertainment business. She later chose to stop worshipping Guanyin, got baptised and even led her family and friends to Christ. Her faith was often put to the test, but she was able to overcome different obstacles with God.

Besides workshops to experience the plight of refugees, and guest sharing sessions, campers also bought at the Famine Market some goodies donated by the 10 Famine Stars and artisanal items made by communities where World Vision works. Rap Chan, founder of Dustykid and renowned local illustrator, also collaborated with the organisers for the first time to design special postcards for the event to raise funds.

Mr. Kevin Chiu, CEO of World Vision Hong Kong, thanked the general public for the continual support of 30-Hour Famine, and highlighted the campers’ selfless dedication. He said, “You can never forget how great a torture hunger is, both physically and mentally, once you have experienced it. Over 800 million people in the world are starving daily, and I hope we all continue to pay attention to this issue and bring them hope.” Despite not being able to attend the event, the general public can still donate online to support 30-Hour Famine (please visit 30.worldvision.org.hk or call World Vision hotline 2394 2394 for details).
