“Why does World Vision hold famine events? Why not transfer donations directly to those who need it?”
World Vision has been organising famine events for almost 30 years in Hong Kong. It is because we believe that famine participants will be more passionate about fundraising when they themselves experience hunger. This act of solidarity can also raise awareness of hunger among their friends and family, and demonstrate to those in need that Hong Kong citizens care. Ever since the first “30-Hour Famine” held in 1984, this annual event has developed to include many other activities:
30-Hour Famine
Every year, thousands of famine heroes gather to fast and raise funds for needy children. Your loving participation next year will continue to help save them from hunger and extreme poverty.
Skip-A-Meal
World Vision calls on corporations, churches, organisations and the public to skip a meal or have a light meal in April, to raise funds for those in need.
